Across the sand, imprinted with footprints from the busy day, the sun was setting on the edge of the ocean. Salmon, lilac, tangerine, and a jumble of other exotic shades were melding together in a curtain of fiery glow. Baekhyun squinted, trying to get a good view of the gorgeous sunset without straining his eyes. One hand planted in the soft sand, he leaned on it for support as the bath water warm sea washed over his toes. Two more days.
“Chanyeol,” Baekhyun started, his gaze still focused on the sunset rather than the older. He paused for longer than he had hoped, his words building up in his throat and keeping him from getting anything out.
“Yes Baek?” Chanyeol turned to him, breaking the silence. His voice was lined with concern.
“Two more days.” Baekhyun spat out. His head drooped low, his eyes falling from the horizon and staring blankly at his plaid shorts.
There was another silence. All that could be heard was the lapping of the waves onto seaside rocks, a couple gulls squawking in the distance, and if you listened close, Baekhyun’s quickening breath.
“I know.” Chanyeol whispered.
Baekhyun raised his head, lips parted to speak once more, but no sound came out. He could feel the boiling tears brimming his eyelids. He did not want to cry. Not here, not in front of Chanyeol. Baekhyun hadn’t cried yet. Not all week. But the sinking sensation in the pit of stomach was becoming too prominent to ignore any longer. He couldn’t push away the thought anymore. The notion that he was going to die. Baekhyun let out a deep, painful sigh. The only thing that burned more than that, was that he would be leaving Chanyeol alone, when this forever ended.
